The APPG on Extraordinary Rendition
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Extraordinary Rendition was established by Andrew Tyrie MP (now Lord Tyrie) in December 2005, in response to allegations that the UK had been involved in the US rendition programme.
Its aims are:
- To establish the truth about the scope and scale of UK involvement in extraordinary rendition.
- To reduce the likelihood that the UK will take part in extraordinary rendition in the future.
The APPG is run by Members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It is an informal, cross-party group that has no official status within Parliament and is not accorded any powers by it. The APPG is supported by contributions from trusts, foundations, non-governmental organisations and private individuals; it receives no money from the government.
The APPG's entry in the official Register is available online.
