The APPGER have discovered that key documents relating to UK involvement in rendition and torture are being blocked by the FCO. The APPGER has been conducting litigation in the US since 2008, in order to discover the full nature of UK involvement in rendition. The US State Department provided a document that shows that 11 files - high level correspondence between the UK and US - have been blocked for release by the FCO.

Former MI5 officer seeks permission to give evidence to the ISC about torture.

A former senior intelligence officer is seeking permission to give evidence to the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC). The officer is to say that the Security Service was aware of the abuse of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. The full story can be read here

Intelligence and Security Committee – Work Priorities Statement

The new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC), Dominic Grieve, has set out the Committee’s work priorities. He stated:

Our longer-term priority is the substantial Inquiry into the role of the UK Government and Security and Intelligence Agencies in relation to detainee treatment and rendition, where there are still unanswered questions”

Intelligence and Security Committee Issues Statement on Redactions to the US Senate Intelligence Committee Report

The Committee concluded that allegations that the UK may have requested redactions to the Senate report to conceal involvement in rendition were unfounded.  It noted, however, that it had only seen the Agencies' internal file notes, but not the specific redactions proposed by the CIA.  The statement can be read here.

Foreign Affairs Committee Seeks Answers over Use of British Territory in renditions

New Claims Emerge that CIA Did Use Diego Garcia as a Transit and Interrogation Site
